Jon Johanson visits Abbotsford Airshow

Click on a photo to see more.

Jon Johanson spent most of August in BC, as part of his latest adventure, an over-the-pole flight. We were very fortunate to have him come to the Abbotsford Airshow.

Wing member George McNutt hosted Jon at his home on the Thursday and Friday night. Saturday night, Jon stayed with Wing members Bob Baldock and Linda Todd.

I foolishly didn't get a photo of Jon when he was here, so I had to steal this one from his web page. Hope he doesn't mind. [Tedd]

The cockpit of VH-NOJ. It's a tight fit for a man the size of Jon Johanson. To the right, you can see the spool upon which the HF antenna is wound. To use the HF radio, Jon first lets out the antenna. When done, he winds it back in again to save drag. VH-NOJ Cockpit
VH-NOJ Side Cockpit View Another view of the cockpit, showing the fuel tank that replaces the back seat. With this tank, Jon can do very long legs, such as Honolulu to San Diego, in one hop (important when there's nothing but water underneath).
Is that the HF antenna, or a HERE (Human Element Range Extender)? VH-NOJ Front View
